Neighborhood Tour: Ivy Covered Beauties

Okay, so I’m slightly obsessive and can never condense these neighborhood tours into one neat and tidy post because I love each and every house I take photos of.  Also, my jaw drops to the floor every time I see any house with even a speck of ivy growing up the side.  Since some of the houses I photographed on and around Minnehaha Parkway (part one and two) had ivy on them, I decided to feature them in their own post.  I love them so much!  Okay, so some of these need to be trimmed back a bit, but you get the point, right?  Maybe I’m just crazy….

I already know I am…

But please humor me and say you like these houses, too!

Seriously, can I write “I’m swooning” after every photo without being annoying? DSC_0557 DSC_0566

Okay, that’s it.  I can’t take it anymore!

Well maybe just a couple more…. DSC_0568

Color and ivy?  Really people, why do you do this to me?  You’re house is too beautiful! DSC_0575 DSC_0577

And this was only the side of that house! DSC_0579

Okay, so maybe if the ivy covers the front door it is too much, but I’m still swooning.DSC_0581 DSC_0582I’m off to secretly plant some ivy along the sides of my apartment building.  Shh…you don’t know where I am or what I’m doing if anyone asks!

Have a great weekend everyone!  I’m moving back home with my parents for the summer!

I love the look of the ivy on houses too. I think it is romantic looking. I have heard that ivy isn’t a good thing to let grow on a house though they said it can damage the mortar in the bricks and wreck the eves, roofing, etc making the house deteriorate faster, water damage etc. It is beautiful to look at.

  • Oh love all the images you’ve posted here… What lovely… fairy tale… dream like homes… Guess thats the ivy effect!!

I read about ivy, and you are right, it sucks the water out of the house and can make it crumble. Sometimes it attracts really nasty insects as well that most people wouldn’t want around. I guess I’ll stick to admiring ivy houses from afar!

  • Those houses are beautiful!! And I, too, love the look of ivy growing on a house. I’ve also heard that it’s hard to keep in check, not good for the houses, etc. too. So, I won’t be planting any for our humble little home, but I still love looking at houses with ivy. Love it!

  • Hello sweet Sarah – I’m a new follower of your blog via The Inspired Room! These photos are beautiful! I grew up in a little old neighborhood in Orange County, CA that had several homes that had ivy growing on the exterior. I’ve always loved that look. So pretty!

    Blessings,
    Marie

  • I adore ivy, well actually all of the vining plants. Also love clematis and mandevillas as they go crazy!
