Proud To Be A Thrifty Girl

Sing to the tune of “I’m Proud To Be An American” by Lee Greenwood.

If tomorrow all the things were gone

In spendy retail stores,

And we couldn’t buy a thing

Brand new anymore,

I’d thank my lucky stars

For my thrifty tendencies

Cause I’d still be out shopping

For secondhand accessories.

And I’m proud to be a thrifty girl

Where at least my stuff’s half-free.

And I won’t forget the people at home

Who sold their crap to me.

And I’d gladly drive up

To their house and buy their junk again,

‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love used things.

Goodwill is my best friend!

From the clothing racks at Savers,

To Salvation Army’s aisles,

Across driveways in America,

I can spot deals for miles.

From the many ads on Craigslist,

And curbside free junk days.

Well there’s pride in every thrifter’s heart,

And it’s time we stand and pay.

‘Cause I’m proud to be a thrifty girl

Where at least my stuff’s half-free.

And I won’t forget the people at home

Who sold their crap to me.

And I’d gladly drive up

To their house and buy their junk again,

‘Cause there

A Closer Look at My Dream Car

I revealed yesterday that I ended up buying a 2003 Subaru Legacy Wagon for about $3000 less than what it was listed for.  Talk about a steal!  Today I’m going to take you through a more detailed look at the car and why it fits my lifestyle.

My mom commented that this car is not the car she ever thought I would pick as a senior in college.  I’ll admit, it is more of a family car which I could never see anyone else my age calling it their dream car.  As a dreamer, however, I look toward the future and try not to live solely in the hear in now because I want to make sure I am doing things to better my future.  This car is my dream car because I can see it lasting me at least five years if not more.  If I haven’t gotten rid of it when I turn 31, I’ll be a happy woman!  Because I want this car to last, I made sure I chose something that will not only be a good fit for me now but will likely be a

Thrifty Adventures: Buying My Dream Car

Yesterday, I took you through the pros and cons of the car I have had since I was 16.  Today, I am going to tell you how I got the car of my dreams for only slightly above our budget but for much less than the car is worth.

It all started with a lot of research.  For a few months, I have been researching different types of vehicles and narrowed down the type of car I wanted to either a minivan, a midsize SUV, or most preferably a station wagon.  I wanted something safe, with good gas mileage, adequate miles on it, all wheel drive or four wheel drive, open space to haul boxes and other items, and I wanted it all for about $5,000.  Plus, I really wanted it to be made in 2000 or later.  Trust me, you can definitely find decent cars in this price range, but finding one with everything I wanted was not easy.  Also, I knew the car was out there by looking at ads online, but I also was certain it would not be easy because I actually wanted more features than what is listed if I could find it.
