Think About It Thursday: Where Does Inspiration Come From?

If you ever ask a writer where they get their inspiration from, many times they will reply something along the lines of, “I usually base my inspiration on experience and part of it just comes to me.”  I think the same is true in the decorating world, at least for me.  If someone asked me where I draw my inspiration from I would tell them from lots of research and exposing myself to many things, but at the same time I have a vision in my head of the overall “feel” I would like my future home to have.

It was strange, one day I was looking through various Etsy shops and I stumbled upon a Ranunculus Mini Set by saranorris.

After yesterday’s post I think it’s safe to assume you all think I should be committed due to my obsession with Ranunculus flowers, so it seems obvious that I would love these photos.  However, the strange thing is that when I saw those photos I thought to myself, “That is what

Conspicuous Ranunculus

Say that five times fast!

I have been dreaming of these new favorites of mine.  They are flowers called ranunculus which looks sort of like a peony but with more petals tightly packed together.  They are described here as being “a small camellialike bloom that ranges in color from red to yellow to pink and white and grows here in the Western United States during springtime.”

I’m usually out of the loops, so I’m guessing many of you have heard of these flowers, but if you have not, check out these gorgeous pictures!

Revamping Recipes: Chunky Vegetarian Chili

Ever since Ash Wednesday and all the talk of giving something up, I’ve been on a healthy food/exercise kick.  I usually exercise at least three times a week, but I want to work out more because it is such a great stress reliever and it makes me feel great about myself.  In addition to that, I thought it was time to find some recipes which are inexpensive yet filling and healthy.  I found this Chunky Vegetarian Chili recipe and new we were destined to be together forever.  I am a huge chili fan, but I have never had a vegetarian version before.  It was exciting!  All the beans in this recipe I think definitely make up for the lack of meaty protein, as well as my eggs for breakfast and ham sandwich for lunch, so I don’t need to worry that I’m overworking myself without any protein to rebuild.

Ingredients:

1 medium green bell pepper, chopped and seeded
1 medium onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced (I used garlic powder instead)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 (14 1/2 ounce) cans Mexican-style tomatoes, undrained (I could only find Southwestern-style tomatoes)

A Renter’s Guide to Photo Groupings

Before I left to go back to school for spring semester, I thought up a new arrangement for the room I was coming back to in my apartment.  I didn’t like the old arrangement with the bed against the window (it was cold during the winter) and wanted it against a wall so I could easily sit and watch TV from it.  The walls were pretty bare as well, so I wanted to make it feel more like “me” with a picture grouping on the wall.  Because it is hard for me to go shopping while I am at school due to the lack of a car, I bought the frames I was going to use while I was at home at Walmart and a dollar store and schemed up a picture grouping by laying everything on my bed.  I ended up changing a lot once I got to school and came up with this:

DSC_0254 I liked the symmetry of this arrangement and the inclusion of the paper flower art I made a while back but didn’t have a good spot for at the time.  The
