Inspiration Board: Elegant Chic

I went to TJ Maxx this weekend with my roommates to check out all the cheap goodies. I am always amazed with that store every time I step through the door. I always find at least one fantastic item and I hardly ever walk out empty handed. The prices are so good even I can afford to shop there! It drives me crazy, though, when I see things that I absolutely love (and become obsessed with) but I cannot buy because either I don’t need them, I don’t have a place for them, or they are still out of my price range. What I found this weekend matched all three of those. Behold the most beautiful chair I have ever seen in my entire life (I am just barely exaggerating) with a price tag of only $149.99 (and there were three in the store)!

The color is perfection. I have found that blue is actually my favorite color when all of my life I have thought it was green. Actually it’s probably a tie between a cool soft blue (like this one), lavender, and a light sage green. Anyway, I could not take my eyes off of this amazing chair. I love a mix between traditional and contemporary and this chair, I think, hit that dead on. I could not find the chair online but here is what the tag said: HD Couture, French blue, nailhead detail, Madison chair velvet. Even the description is lovely! It has the traditional elements with the velvet, the tufting, and the silhouette, but the legs and the absence of too much extreme detail make it a little more contemporary. I wanted to buy two of the chairs, but I could put three hundred dollars toward books and loans.

Here’s a close up of the back. Sorry for the quality – had to use my boyfriend’s Blackberry to take pictures because I’m too shy to whip out my camera in stores; I don’t want to get yelled at!

And I just couldn’t let those chairs sit in my mind, I had to see what they would look like in my dream house with all my dream money!

I started by picking out the table. I love deep wood and think this table is perfect. In my dream house I have a long dining room perfect for lots of guests. I would put the two TJ Maxx chairs at the ends of the table. Then I found a chair that was the same color wood with a x-back, but I decided I wanted a lighter feel to lighten the room after adding the dark table (and my dream house has super dark wood floors). I found these white chairs with the similar x-back but I like the simplicity of these next to the detailed white chairs. I thought this rug in the cream beige would be a nice anchor for the room and also brighten it up a bit. The last big furniture piece I fell in love with was this buffet. It is stained pretty close to the same color as the table and has a little room for storage. I added these baskets in Woven Chili to bring in more storage and also an accent color.

Above the buffet I found the perfect art: a knife, a fork, and a spoon. I then added these flowers for more of the accent color. I just love these star tealight holders so I threw in one of those aswell.

To anchor the huge dream windows in the dream dining room I picked these sheers with these curtains. I love the texture that the sheers bring to the room. I added this capiz mirror to bring in more light to put on one of the walls. I also brought in these chair pads to bring in another shade of blue and to make the chairs more comfortable. The finishing touches were the candle holders on the table found here and here and then the quirky chandelier. I don’t know how you like the chandelier, but I think it’s awesome because it brings in the ambery red colors and also down plays the traditional elements. I don’t like to be too serious, which is why I like this because it make the room more fun and casual.

Well that’s my dream dining room with my dream chair (or at least one version of my dream dining room). What do you think? What would you do with the chair?

Oh my, just happened upon your blog after googling “HD Couture chairs” and it looks like we have the same taste in chairs! I saw those beautiful french blue gentry chairs this past weekend at a Philly area TJ Maxx. I didn’t buy them and boy did I regret it. I couldn’t stop thinking about them the whole next day so I left my mother-in-law a frantic message asking her to please go back to pick up a pair for me so that I wouldn’t lose out on them. I am happy to report that she got 2 for me and 1 of them was even on sale! How exciting! MY FIL is even going to deliver them to NYC for us. I plan on using them as my dining table end chairs – I don’t even have the table yet, but they coordinate so well with my Delf blue velvet sofa that they’re gonna look fabulous.
I’ve already emailed a link to your blog to her because I thought it was such a funny coincidence. I hope you get a kick out of my story as well, good luck!

    La Linda,

I’m so glad you found my blog! Thanks for commenting! I’m so glad you got to buy them and they were still there! I’m very jealous. I really have no use for them at this point in my life, but I hope I find something similar (or somehow the exact same chairs) a couple years down the road. If you ever take a picture of the space with the chairs when it is completed enough that you would be willing to show it, I would love to see it. I love seeing how different people view a piece of furniture based off of what other elements they bring into the room. I hope they arrive in good condition and they work well in your space!! Thanks again for sharing your story with me!

I saw those chairs earlier today at TJ Maxx. Didn’t buy them because I was wanted my husband to see them. Went back and one was sold. Does anyone know where I can get the matching chair?

    Sonja,

That’s so sad! I hope you can find another one! I don’t know if TJ Maxx stores do this, but you could try asking someone there if they could call around to other TJ Maxx stores to see if the chair is in stock. I don’t know if you have any others close by. I wonder if you could also ask what store the chair was sold at before it was brought to TJ Maxx. Other than that, I have no idea. Good luck, though. Those chairs are perfect!

I recently found some chairs in that exact color but they r camelback parson chairs. Same silver nailhead trim and all….I love the color but I was only able to get 4 of those chairs and 2 black. I would have loved to put all six of the french blue around my brown table. I love the dream dining room you have created. What would you do with just four of those chairs? I think the 2 black or 2 harsh and I would love at least 6 chairs at my table. Any recommendations? Thank you

    Kristian,

The chairs sound lovely! That’s too bad they didn’t have the amount you wanted. Is your table round or a rectangle? I personally really love the look of mixed chairs at a dining table, but usually when its rectangular and not round. If it is round, you could put two chairs that match but are not the same (like the white ones I used in the inspiration board) across from each other and then use the camelback parson chairs in between, with two on each side. If you have a rectangular table and you only can fit two chairs on each side, use the camelback parson chairs there and then find a different type of chair to use at the heads of the table. If you can fit more than two chairs on each side of the table, you could use a bench on one side and the camelback parson chairs on the other with a different type of chair still at the heads of the table. It may even look nice to use two parson chairs on each side with a different type of chair in between them. I think you still have many options that would look great. Let me know if you have any further questions! I hope that helped! I can find some pictures as examples if my explanations didn’t make sense.

I don’t even have a table yet. All I have are the chairs and have been trying to create my whole dining room around them. I would like to seat 6 to 8 people. I have a buffet in black with brown wood top that I would like to keep in the room. I have light brown wood floors. Help me put this all together;) LOL I love the chairs but have no imagination. I sure do appreciate all your help. I, too, love Interior design and things of this sort but have no idea what I am doing! Thanks again
