After announcing just how small my studio apartment will be, I set out to find the best ways to make use of cramped quarters for bedrooms. Today I will be doing the same for bathrooms. Bathrooms usually need an adequate amount of storage. From showering, to getting ready, all the way to cleaning, these rooms take a lot of abuse and contain a lot of products that must be stored efficiently in order to maximize space and make everyone’s lives easier.
In my studio apartment, the bathroom is actually huge compared to the rest of the space. I only have a standing shower but I have more than enough room for a tub (too bad I won’t get one) as well as room to even do a cartwheel if I wanted! This extra space will make storage easier, but with a small budget I will have to think outside the box in order to store as much as possible without any fancy storage systems. In the following list, I have included both affordable solutions as well as ones for people who would like to spend a little more while also getting more in the process.
Here are my eight favorite ways to

At my room in my parent’s house, I am lucky to have both a full bathroom and a small walk-in closet. That’s not even mentioning the gorgeous window. With a very good amount of space, you would think I would be organized, but because I only live there three to four months out of the year, I have to get into a new routine each time and that usually means living a little disorderly for a while. Well, I decided I was not going to settle for another cramped closet this summer. I only have a little over a month before I go back go school, but because rearranging things is so easy and quick, I wasn’t going to let anything stop me from having the closet of my dreams (my affordable dreams, that is).
Here is how it was organized to begin with:

Here are photos of what it looked like before I organized it. I left it exactly as is because I wanted you to see

I’m a big user of q-tips and cotton balls, but I have never found a reason to buy special storage containers for these items. I kept the bag of cotton balls under the sink and the q-tips in a drawer in my vanity or any other place that was disclosed. I decided to try out a different method of storage for these items when I purged products in my bathroom last week.
Because I am thrifty and didn’t want to buy special q-tip/cotton ball containers if I wouldn’t like using them after a while, I looked through my mom’s glass collection she keeps conveniently in one of the kitchen pantry cabinets. There are definite benefits of living with people who have way more stuff than you and let you borrow a lot. I found a wide curvy jar with a large cork top which was the perfect size for cotton balls and also a small round tea candle holder that seemed to be the right size for q-tips. I put the cotton products in them and fell in love. I’ve been using them ever since.
Check it out:

Yesterday, I posted the layout of the studio apartment I will be moving into first thing come September. If you missed it, you can check it out here. I sure have my work cut out for me because not only do I need lots of storage space so I can live a normal life as well as keep blogging, exercising, crafting, and the other fun things I’ve been able to do every other place I’ve lived, but I also need storage for this teeny-tiny space on a teeny-tiny budget.
There are tons of resources online that give people tips for making the most of a small space. Many of them involve a large chunk of change, which I just don’t have, and even if I did have it I wouldn’t want to spend it on an apartment I will be living in for less than a year. I am going to corral my favorite solutions with you that can be replicated for cheap, or close to cheap. Storage isn’t always inexpensive, but I am determined to challenge myself to make my space not only designed on a dime but also designed in a way that’s livable, practical, and pretty.
Today I’m going

Now that I’m going to be in my own 330 square foot studio apartment (including the bathroom which on its own is 70 square feet), I need to find ways to store things without endless clutter. I will have a kitchen area, a bathroom, and then one longer area where I will need to fit my queen size bed, a desk, a loveseat, coffee table, TV, file cabinet, and nightstand. It’s going to be packed in there, but I’ve been trying out arrangements on paper and on my computer to come up with the best configuration. Because there is limited floor space, I have to make the most of what I have. What takes up the most space in a room like this? The bed.
There are many ways you can use a bed for more storage. Either you can plant the bed and use the open space underneath for storage or you can utilize different kinds of bed that will allow for more floor space, thus giving you room to add alternative methods of storage. I will share with you some great solutions, but keep in mind some are more budget-friendly than others.
