Over the weekend, San and I went to the Renaissance Festival. I don't know if everyone is familiar with what that is, so I'll explain it. It's basically a place where people go to immerse themselves in the Medieval days. You buy a ticket and enter and suddenly it's as if you are in another time. Tons of people are dressed up in Medieval clothing with corsets and the like. There are tons and tons of shops of things like pottery, paintings, kids toys, and other handmade things. There is also a ton of food and other festivities. Unfortunately it was very cold out, so I did not have the patience to take a bunch of pictures, or any for that matter. I'm kind of disappointed I didn't, but I didn't want one of the people there to ridicule me for using a camera, which definitely doesn't fit with the time period (I've seen them do that to people
Continue reading Weekend Review: Renaissance Festival

I will share with you a short recap of the coolest things we saw and did there.

We saw a man balancing an ice sculpture that I would say was about 5-6 feet tall on his head. We later saw pieces of it on the ground…

We ate a Wild Boar sandwich, which we actually believed was wild boar and thought tasted very different than regular pork, until my parents commented that it was probably just named that to fit with the theme of the festival. I thought that was pretty funny.

We also ate a beef shish kabob sandwich with a garlic sauce and hummus (and it was delicious). I also had to get the chili in a bread bowl and San got beer cheese soup.

We watched a hypnotist show. Funniest part: He had a man thinking he was pregnant and giving birth who started crying when he realized that the person who “did this to him” never called him and wasn’t there to help take care of the baby. He also lifted up his shirt in front of everyone to breastfeed the baby. It was hilarious!

I bought a Christmas ornament of a moon which is something San and I have started to do everywhere we visit. Once we have a tree together it will be nice to display all of them.

San bought me a rose. A lady came by saying, “Flower for your lady?” which I thought was really cute, but then some guy ruined it by saying, “Why don’t you buy her pottery because flowers just die.” I still love it though.

I put the rose with the carnation I received two weeks ago and when I woke up the next day it had toppled over. Sad.

I hope everyone else had a great weekend. Are there any quirky festivals like this where you’re from?

On Saturday, my boyfriend and I had nothing better to do, so we drove over to Minnehaha Park. I don't know why I don't take advantage of more of the awesome attractions in the Twin Cities, especially when they are usually just minutes from where I live. Maybe the fact that I don't have a car and have to wait for my boyfriend to lug me around?
Continue reading My Neck of the Woods: Minnehaha Falls

On Saturday, my boyfriend and I had nothing better to do, so we drove over to Minnehaha Park. It’s a very nice park in Minneapolis that I have heard great things about but had never visited before. I don’t know why I don’t take advantage of more of the awesome attractions in the Twin Cities, especially when they are usually just minutes from where I live. Maybe the fact that I don’t have a car and have to wait for my boyfriend to lug me around? Possibly…

Anyway, we ate a wonderful restaurant which I will tell you all about tomorrow and then we toured the park. It really is beautiful, even though the main attraction (a waterfall) was dried up. I guess that give me a reason to go back next year!

I would have loved to rent one of these to bike around the park, but it was insanely hot out that day anyway, so I don’t think I would have enjoyed it very much.

The little stream leading up to the falls was basically waterless, but these moss covered rocks were just as beautiful. This picture doesn’t do them justice.

My boyfriend spotted this rose unexpectedly laying in the water. How gorgeous! You just can’t plan things like that, it seems.

This was the nonexistent waterfall. Bummer. I still enjoyed the stone behind it, though.

Autumn and I have a love-hate relationship. I love fall with all the gorgeous colors and bringing out the warmer clothes to bundle up in, but just the thought of winter (not the Christmas winter where everything is merry and bright, but the winter on December 26th when you remember you have to endure it for about 4 more months) makes me dread fall.

It was such a lovely park. I can’t wait to go back. The Twin Cities is such a cool place to live because although there are all the aspects of cities that I hate (crime, run down neighborhoods, unkempt landscaping, too much concrete), there are still lots of parks and really cool spots to hang out. I am a country girl, but there are little places here that I will miss once I graduate.

How was your weekend?
