For most of my life I have lived in SE Minnesota and for as long as I can remember I have done most exciting things (shopping, going to movies, going out to eat) in Rochester, MN. Rochester is home to the Mayo Clinic and a sprawling city that doesn’t feel too big or too small. It’s been rated one of the best places to live in the country many times (here and here) and I can see why – there’s something for everyone. Downtown Rochester feels more like the Twin Cities, but there are tons of neighborhoods that can feel suburban or even rural depending on how far on the outskirts they are. It’s the perfect place that is just right for me (as long as I’m not right in the middle of everything living in houses that are almost touching the neighbors). I love being a country girl, but I also love having everything I need at only a short drive. If all goes well, I plan on raising a family and growing old in Rochester, if I don’t get so sick of the snow that I need to move out east in a nice cottage along the ocean

Okay, so I’m slightly obsessive and can never condense these neighborhood tours into one neat and tidy post because I love each and every house I take photos of. Also, my jaw drops to the floor every time I see any house with even a speck of ivy growing up the side. Since some of the houses I photographed on and around Minnehaha Parkway (part one and two) had ivy on them, I decided to feature them in their own post. I love them so much! Okay, so some of these need to be trimmed back a bit, but you get the point, right? Maybe I’m just crazy….
I already know I am…
But please humor me and say you like these houses, too!

Seriously, can I write “I’m swooning” after every photo without being annoying?
Okay, that’s it. I can’t take it anymore!
Well maybe just a couple more…. Continue reading Neighborhood Tour: Ivy Covered Beauties

Yesterday, I posted the first part of the Minnehaha Parkway neighborhood tour. I promised I would show you the more colorful houses, which I am doing in conjunction with my Think About It Thursday post. After seeing all the more subtle colors on the homes yesterday, I want to know what you prefer – neutral or colorful homes. Would you rather have a home with neutral colors and use landscaping and accessories to bring in color (or bring no other color in at all) or use color on the house itself and limit the color in other areas? Or, do you like color everywhere and cannot get enough of it?
Let’s look at the second part of the tour so you can be the judge of what looks best. Again, for the first part, head over to yesterday’s post.

Light blue shutters and a red clay tile roof. Very pretty!
I’m loving the turquoise! Think of how bland this house

I showed you the east side of the Mississippi in St. Paul (parts one and two) and thought it was about time I show you the houses directly across the river in Minneapolis. These houses run along Minnehaha Parkway and the surrounding streets. I blogged last year about Minnehaha Falls and Sea Salt Eatery which are in the same area as this neighborhood. These houses are not quite as grand and lavish as the ones across the river in St. Paul, but they look like little English-inspired cottages and are beautiful nonetheless. Because I took so many photos and can’t stand to throw many of them out, I’ve divided them into three posts: first the plain but pretty houses, next the more colorful houses, and lastly the houses coated in ivy. Make sure to come back the rest of the week to see the rest of the houses – they are all gorgeous!
These may be more plain in comparison to the other houses I will be showing you tomorrow and Friday, but they are still gorgeous. They may lack the color and ivy some of the other houses boast, but the architecture of these houses needs little embellishment. Why don’t
