Light, Airy, and Feminine Bedrooms

I love me some bedrooms with lots of white but in addition to some colorful and feminine details.  What do you think?

Need some examples?

Vintage Paint Colors

I have been moving all of the photos in my inspiration folders saved on my hard drive to Photobucket in order to save space on my computer – I don’t see the amount of photos decreasing any time soon, the opposite is true.  I am writing descriptions for each photo telling where I found it (if I recorded it) and what I like about the photo so I don’t have to guess in the future.  I came across this photo of vintage paint colors I had saved a while back that I found at 1912 Bungalow.

I am drawn to the first two rows across the most, especially the top two in the left corner.  This just confirms that I love incorporating vintage elements with more modern because I am drawn to these paint colors!  Although, I must be honest, I have seen a lot of the colors I am drawn to in this photo in rooms that have been designed recently, so I’m not the only one using colors from the past (although I don’t think any color itself gets old – just the way we use it

Customize Your Kitchen & Maximize Your Space

I have recently been attracted to inspiration photos of kitchens that do things differently.  I don’t necessarily mean kitchens that have interesting cabinets or a fun backsplash, but kitchens that were custom designed beyond what one could find in the average American kitchen.  These kitchens appear to have been constructed to fit how a real person or family lives and uses the heart of their home.  I would love to inspire all of you with some images of what a kitchen can be with some careful planning and mapping out what really makes a kitchen functional for your specific needs.

My Home Ideas

This kitchen has many elements that make it much more functional and carefully-crafted than the average builder-grade or even the average custom kitchen.  What stands out to me are the little shelves behind the stove, perfect for spices or a recipe box.  Also, including some glass cabinets on either side of the stove makes the perfects space for a display.  The last truly functional and custom aspect of this kitchen is the island.  It looks like a table but I can tell

Obsession Alert: Antique Dressers

Earlier this week, I posted about my thrifty finds I purchased while doing some shopping at consignment stores.  My favorite stop was at an amazing consignment store selling furniture, purses, clothing, and home accessories called Kismet Consignment* located in Rochester, MN.  If you live in the area, you must check out this store if you haven’t yet.  My mom scored two large framed beveled mirrors for About $70 for the pair – what a deal!

The reason I’m sharing this is because I found an incredible piece of furniture there that I’m now obsessed with.  It was a tall dresser with two smaller drawers on top separated by a slab of marble with a small mirror in the middle.  My mom and I believe it had been a man’s dresser where he would keep his watch and would wash his hands and face in the morning in a washbowl.  I have no need for this kind of furniture (or any furniture for that matter) right now, but, you know me – I sure am dreaming about it!

If you have been following my blog for a while, you probably know that I like vintage/antique pieces mixed in with more modern ones.  I

Not Your Average Builder-Grade Door

I love solid wood doors of all shapes and size.  I especially love curved doors.  However, I have a feeling that many of the houses in my price range when it comes time to buy my first place will not have solid wood doors.  Or, perhaps maybe I will not like the doors and will want to change them somehow.  Although I am usually hesitant about doing permanent treatments on things that cannot be replaced easily (doors, windows, built-ins, etc), I have some fun inspiration to share with all of you.  Doors do not have to be something you open and close and think nothing more about – they can be the focal point in a room if they stand out, and boy do the following doors stand out!

Front doors are usually the easiest to change because they aren’t expected to be uniform with every door in the house, so people can really have fun changing them up.
