Dreaming Of: The Perfect Playhouse

I drove up to see San earlier this week at the spur of the moment which was a nice surprise for both of us.  While I was driving, I passed some kind of storage shed store and saw the coolest house ever.  Well, not a house but, well…you’ll see:

image I don’t know the name of the company that was selling these, but I found the photo above here which is exactly what I saw while I was driving.  How cool would this be for a kid’s playhouse?  I have to feel some sense of deja vu while writing this because for my eleventh birthday, I believe, my dad, who is a carpenter, built me a playhouse which was basically a pretty storage shed with three windows added and a door.  He even added a little porch to it.  Now my parents use it as a garden shed.  I loved playing in it.  I bought everything for it at garage sales (a cot, art, a rug, some kitchenware, etc.) and even was given an old-fashioned desk to use in it by my great uncle.  It was everything a little girl could dream of, so when I saw these awesome sheds with the lighthouses I couldn’t help but file them away for future reference when I have kids.

Heck, I may even buy one for myself one day as a quiet retreat!  I’m hoping the little girl inside of me never dies and I just keep on dreaming!

Would you ever build or buy one of these for a child in your life?  Did you have a playhouse or treehouse growing up?

  • I had a playhouse growing up – although it was the brightly colored, plastic kind. I loved playing in it! I remember my parents inherited about 8 tangerine trees when they bought their house they’re currently still living in, and I would go in my playhouse and make tangerine juice in my little plastic kitchen. Or just eat tangerines. Or chuck them at my little brother. Ah, good times. :)

If..er, when, we have kids I’d like to go the route your parents took, though. Converting it to a garden shed when the kids are too old for it anymore is a fantastic idea! And I love that playhouse you found. It’s so cute!

  • This playhouse is really nice. I remember when i was a kid… The house of my parents has an attic. There was my space, my old attic full of secrets :)

What a great playhouse! I can see kids having a grand old time in it with there imaginations. I think I would have fun in it myself! Where there is love and imagination, those are the greatest memories!

  • What a cute story about your childhood playhouse! I had a small playhouse when I was a kid and although it was very small, I loved it!

And on a totally unrelated note, your wishlist makes me smile – I have those exact TV trays and storage rack. I also have a whole bunch of the small storage boxes, but mine are all from dollar stores. :)

  • Awww I love the playhouse you found, especially the upper balcony part. How fun! My sisters and I had a 2 story playhouse when we were little, complete with a wooden stove that my mom found at a garage sale. We spent so many hours out there playing house and kitchen. It bring back good memories. :)
