My Happy Place….

When I am at home for the summers, I only get to see San once every couple weeks for the most part.  We cherish the time we have together and do all that we can to make the most of it, but it always seems to slip away before we realize it.  For a couple days, though, I get to be in my happiest place.  Seriously, I am probably as corny as they come, but I still cannot believe how happy and at ease one person can make you feel.  It’s an amazing thing, that love.

Anyway, this time San came to me to visit.  On Monday, we went to Toy Story 3 where we teared up but left very happy.  I love that those movies have lived on beyond my childhood.  They bring back so many memories!  Yesterday, we cooked dinner and dessert for my family, and oh what a treat it was.

Losing Your Bum on a Budget

A while ago, I read Kristi’s post about saving money by working out at home.  I had wanted to post about exercising as well since I am a self-proclaimed exercise enthusiast, but didn’t think I had much more to add.  Well I feel that since I am in college and lost the fifteen-twenty pounds I gained my freshman year in my tiny room my sophomore year, I am well-equipped to share my thoughts and work out philosophy, all on a teeny tiny budget.

When I was in high school, I was on the dance team.  GSH_05364GSH_04623 I’m in the front center in both photos.

It became a huge passion of mine and I ended up advancing very quickly at it due to being a perfectionist and hard work ethic.  I made varsity after one year of being on junior varsity and by my senior year and second year of varsity I was one of three captains.  We won conference and made it to state that year, which is one my proudest accomplishments and

10 Solutions For Maximizing Space with Beds

Now that I’m going to be in my own 330 square foot studio apartment (including the bathroom which on its own is 70 square feet), I need to find ways to store things without endless clutter.  I will have a kitchen area, a bathroom, and then one longer area where I will need to fit my queen size bed, a desk, a loveseat, coffee table, TV, file cabinet, and nightstand.  It’s going to be packed in there, but I’ve been trying out arrangements on paper and on my computer to come up with the best configuration.  Because there is limited floor space, I have to make the most of what I have.  What takes up the most space in a room like this?  The bed.

There are many ways you can use a bed for more storage.  Either you can plant the bed and use the open space underneath for storage or you can utilize different kinds of bed that will allow for more floor space, thus giving you room to add alternative methods of storage.  I will share with you some great solutions, but keep in mind some are more budget-friendly than others.

Finding My Style: Happy and Light White Bedding

A couple weeks ago, Sherry and John at Young House Love wrote a wonderful post about pinning down your style.  I have been having trouble with this lately because I am preparing to decorate my studio apartment I will be living in during my senior year starting September.  I am drawn to so many things, especially now that I’ve been blogging for almost a year and have seen all the different styles that are out there.  I am baffled that I can be drawn to distressed painted furniture, bright colorful polka dotted anything, but also love giant tufted sofas and almost gaudy chandeliers.  It doesn’t seem to go together.

Sherry and John helped me realize that while I can really like many styles, I am probably naturally drawn to one style that I would love to live with every day.  This style may not have a name in the design world, but is made up of many different elements I am drawn to put together.  In order to see this pattern, which I was certain I had figured out already, I turned to my inspiration files both from magazines and online, which I store in a Photobucket account.  I found many

Less Is More: Banning Books and Loving Libraries

If you saw my posts about my garage sale, then you have seen this picture:

These are books I had from about fifth grade to high school.  These are only the ones I let myself get rid of.  I have plenty more stashed under my bed, in boxes in the basement, and on my bookshelf.  I guess two weeks ago when I was discussing my hoarding habits, I was in denial about my book obsession.  It makes sense that I love books and would love to surround myself with them.  I mean, I’m majoring in English and Education.  I want to teach literature, writing, and all other English-related things to students.  I love reading and writing.  There, it’s justified now, right?

Wrong.  So very wrong.

I love buying books and reading most of them once.  I am not the kind of person who re-reads a book.  I love the idea of it, but there are so many books I have not read yet, so I never let myself take a break from new books to go back to read an old one.  Most of the books I buy are
