Car Adventures: Saying Goodbye to Rex

When I turned sixteen in 2005, I got my license and my parents bought me a 1993 Chevy Lumina with 250,000 miles on it.  They got it for about one thousand smackaroos.  With that many miles you would think it would be in bad condition, but it actually was in very good condition and stayed that way more or less until today, with some work along the way.  On Saturday, I had to say goodbye to that car, which I lovingly named Rex (like a dinosaur) five years ago, because I got a new car!!!  I looked at everyone’s suggestions last week, which I wanted to thank you all for giving me, but I ended up getting the car I originally wanted although I researched all the cars suggested.  Nothing against the advice, but I found the car of my dreams.  More on that tomorrow and Wednesday, though.

Today I want to share a little bit about my first car love, Rex, who made me very happy for five years and now makes me very sad to have to say goodbye to.  As a lover of all things domestic, I think a car is very important.  I am a small town

Think About It Thursday: What Car Do You Drive?

I am a week away from turning 21 and about to become the owner of a new (to me) car. Since I turned 16 I have been driving a 1992-1993 (I’m not a car girl…) Chevy Lumina which was purchased for about a grand with 250,000 miles on it. It was in mint condition considering it was just over ten years old and had been driven a ton. It was a dear friend of mine, but it has gotten to the point where I have to record when and how much gas I put in because the gas gauge doesn’t work and I have to know what to do when it unexpectedly shuts off while I’m driving down the highway. Not exactly the safe car anyone wants to be driving…

I’m now on the hunt for a new one and want to know if you have any recommendations. I’m looking for something used and pretty inexpensive (think around five grand or less). I want something I can haul a good amount of stuff in because I will be moving a lot in the next few years, but I don’t want a gas guzzler. All

My Crafty Pseudo-Silhouette Artwork

I’ll admit – I’m definitely one of those people on board with the silhouette craze that’s been going around.  I’ve been wanting to do my own silhouettes for a while, but something has always been stopping me.  You see, I don’t like to jump on bandwagons, even when I really do love something and it doesn’t appeal to me only because others have been doing it.  I did the whole chalkboard thing, which I really do love, but as much as I wanted to do some silhouette art, I just couldn’t make myself.  Plus, even if I did do it, I would feel cheap blogging about it because we’ve all been there done that, it seems.  If you have blogged about it or are going to blog about it – don’t take this as a stab to you.  I still love reading about it, but for me I personally wanted to do something a little different.

I have a gorgeous blue frame my wonderful boyfriend bought me for my birthday last year after I hinted and nudged him like crazy about it while in one of my favorite stores, Patina.  It holds a 5×7 photo and the only photo I had

Revamping Recipes: Buffalo Chicken Casserole

Okay, San really should just become a regular blogger on here or start his own blog (something he’s been wanting and I’ve been persuading him to do).  Here’s a recipe made by him once again.  It’s a buffalo chicken casserole which sounds delicious and apparently is.  He has made it before and wanted to make it again and send me the photos because he wanted all of you to hear about it!  The recipe comes from Recipe Zaar, but San revamped it a little to fit what he had on hand and what he was feeling like at the moment.  We are very similar in that way!DSC04654

Ingredients:

1 1/4 lbs boneless chicken breasts, cut in strips (cubed works well, too)
1/3 cup buffalo wing sauce
6 cups frozen southern style potatoes or obrien potatoes, thawed
1 cup ranch dressing
1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1 (10 1/2 ounce) can cream of celery soup
1/2 cup corn flake crumbs (he left these out)
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted  (San left this out as well)
1/4 cup green onion, chopped about 3-4 (you can pass on this as well if you

Fancy Shmancy DIY Makeup Brush Holder

I’m all moved in (finally) and am working on getting my room to be ‘just right’ for me to live and work in during the summer.  I realized while unpacking that I have a ton of stuff and mostly too many decorating accessories like glass bottles, vases, frames, etc.  I packed a lot of them away so I can pick and choose what to use depending on my mood and where I am living.  I had packed up my favorite blue pedestal bowl but decided it needs to be kept out no matter what because I love it so much.  I made myself find a use for it in my room.  Here is what I came up with – a fancy shmancy makeup brush holder.

Here is what I started with:

Makeup brushes, the blue pedestal bowl (isn’t it gorgeous?), colored glass vase gems, a small glass container, and white vase filler. DSC_0603 I filled the glass container with
